Update Balanced Approach Procedure Schiphol Airport

December 2024: The following is a message from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management

Dear Sir/Madam,

By means of this e-mail, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management would like to update you about the balanced approach procedure for Schiphol Airport. Today, December 6th, we have informed the European Commission, EU member states and other interested parties, about the number of movements that follows from the final calculations.

Background
On September 4th, the government notified a package of measures to the European Commission. You have been informed about the package as well. This package included a range for the number of aircraft movements. Today the government has decided to adjust the noise abatement objective for the first phase to -15% instead of -17%, which leads to a maximum number of 478.000 movements a year and therefore falls within the previously established bandwidth.

Final combination of measures
Information about the final combination of measures and the associated documents can be found here. We will provide you with a courtesy translation of the letter to parliament in the next week.

Follow-up process
The European Commission’s opinion is expected within three months. After receipt of this opinion, the government will make a final decision. The measures will be incorporated into laws and regulations. The goal is for the measures to have effect from November 2025.

If you have any questions regarding this decision, we are, of course, happy to answer them.

With kind regards,

Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management
